The Vita is probably the console with the most lopsided quality-to-attention ratio in recent history. The OLED screen of the PCH-1000 had saturated colours and true blacks — the PCH-2000 Slim replaced it with a matte LCD to cut costs, visibly degrading the experience. Sony's proprietary memory cards were the system's albatross: expensive, slower than standard SD, and still the only way to save data on the base unit. Physical releases in the West ended officially in 2019 with Shakedown: Hawaii and a handful of indie titles — extremely limited print runs, already commanding significant prices. The Japanese market continued a few months longer: some late-life JP physical releases are among the most desirable pieces on the platform.
