Game Boy Advance

The original GBA had no backlight — an absurd oversight even in 2001 that Nintendo quietly fixed in 2003 with the SP (AGS-001). But there's a more desirable version still: the AGS-101, identifiable by the "brighter" sticker on the box, with a true active backlit LCD instead of side-lit. The visual difference is dramatic. The GBA Micro (2005) was beautifully minimal but dropped GBC compatibility — a bold, divisive call. Mother 3, the third EarthBound chapter, launched in Japan in 2006 and never received an official western release: the original Japanese cartridge is one of the most hunted carts in collecting. Sealed PAL copies of Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow have seen significant price increases in recent years.
